Phase 1

Organization

The CBDC programme is a global coalition of non-governmental and governmental organisation involved in the on-farm management of agro-biodiversity. All partners share common objectives and operate on shared principles. These are laid out in a protocol in full respect of their cultural and institutional diversity.

In its first phase (1995 -1999), the CBDC consisted of three regional programmes in South-East Asia, Africa and Latin America, as well as an International Policy Programme (IPP) and an International Technical Programme (ITP). The African and Latin American regions consist of four national programmes, and South East Asia has three after the withdrawal of Malaysia from the CBDC. A Programme Coordinating Committee (PCC), a Global Coordination Unit (GCU) and Regional Coordination Units (RCUs) served to ensure the linkages between the various activities.

The second phase of the program started in 2000 and will continue until 2004 with an adapted structure to build upon the achievements of the first phase. This new structure involves a coordination adopted to promote exchange and collaboration between partners in the framework of themes known as the Transversal Lines (T-Lines).
