Principal activities:
- conducting survey and making inventory of the biodiversity (genetic,
species and ecosystem level) of local crops;
- conducting survey on farmers’ management of biodiversity;
- documentation of indigenous knowledge on biodiversity;
- enhancement of the rural community’s autonomy in the use, maintenance
and development of PGR;
- creating awareness of rural (young) people on the recuperation,
conservation and
- development of biodiversity, through collaboration with local schools.
The project region is extremely rich in biodiversity. This
resource is under a high pressure of genetic erosion of all crops and at all
levels, including the related indigenous knowledge. The central focus of the
project is to enhance the people's awareness on the value and management of
biological diversity. Participatory approaches for surveys are used, and direct
linkages with local schools are established to enhance the indigenous knowledge
base on biodiversity.
