Principal activities:
- identification of micro-centres of genetic
diversity for maize, potato, sweet potato, quinoa and habos in 14 project
sites;
- support for local organisations in the
conservation, management, inventory and documentation of the crop genetic
diversity;
- strengthening of farmers’ autonomy in the
management and conservation of genetic diversity;
- establishment and support of linkages between
the formal and informal systems of crop development.
Peru is one of the globally important centers
for genetic diversity. The project’s principal aim is to support farmers'
management of genetic diversity through training, and enhancing awareness on
issues related to the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and wild plants.
