South East Asia Regional Institute for Community Education (SEARICE, NGO)

Principal activities:

  • survey of PGR, seed systems and crop management (including farmers' selection) and documentation on rice, maize, yam, cassava, sweet potato and banana;
  • introduction, local testing and dissemination (PVS) of genetic materials (farmers' varieties, modern varieties, research materials);
  • training of farmers in PGR conservation, development (selection) and seed production (farmer field schools);
  • on-farm conservation;
  • other fields (marketing studies, ecological pest management, soil fertility management)
The CBDC Project in Bohol has carried out a detailed survey of genetic diversity, seed systems and management of a number of crops. It focuses on increasing farmers’ access to genetic diversity and supporting their management of the resources. This approach links a process of empowerment with local genetic resource conservation and development.
